Mandawala Ella
Mandawala Ella, also known simply as Mandawala Falls, is a serene and lesser-known waterfall located near the quiet village of Ekiriya, just a short distance (approximately 14km) from the Nuga Retreat Hotel in the Hanguranketha region of Sri Lanka’s Central Province.
Because Mandawala Ella lies within a sensitive natural zone, visitors are encouraged to respect the environment:
• Leave no trace.
• Avoid loud noises.
• Do not litter or bathe in the stream, as it may affect the local aquatic life.
Surrounded by lush forest, rolling hills, and untouched wilderness, Mandawala Ella offers a breathtaking display of cascading water flowing gracefully over moss-covered rocks into a crystal-clear pool below. The sound of the waterfall blends perfectly with the songs of birds and the whispering of trees, creating a calming and immersive nature experience.
Untouched Beauty: Not yet crowded by tourism, making it feel like a personal discovery.
Biodiversity: The surrounding ecosystem is rich with life—birds, butterflies, rare trees, and even shy forest animals like monkeys or deer can sometimes be spotted along the trail.
Tranquillity: The falls are ideal for meditation, photography, or simply soaking in the atmosphere.
